PRISON MINISTRY: Cora Rawlins is voluntarily involved in teaching prisoners skills that they can use once they are released from prison. These include sewing and woodwork and Cora writes: “My class of 6 (5 have been transferred in the last 2 months) is making all sorts of things to sell  to be able to have a Christmas lunch for about 20 of them who attend the Bible Study class every morning.  There is a list at the back of the church with items for sale.  For viewing please see me after church or phone:  082 492 7704 or 044 382 5157 both after 1.00 p.m. or leave a message. Thank you.” Any donations towards this appeal would be greatly appreciated.

YOUTH WEEK: One of the highlights on the Youth for Christ calendar is Youth Week which is held at Magaliesburg, North West Province in January each year. This is open to anyone from the age of 15 to 23 years and next year’s event covers the period 2^nd to 8^th January. The young people are assured of a wonderful time of getting to know the Lord better through workshops, discussion sessions and Praise and Worship gatherings designed specially for this age group. Young people from all over South Africa and from neighbouring countries attend this event where they are given the opportunity to relax and enjoy the company of youngsters of their own age and to share their thoughts and feelings in the most idyllic of surroundings. The cost is R1 200 per person which includes transport, accommodation and meals. If you would like more information about Youth Week, please contact Ruben at YFC on 044-382 4937.

LADIES LUNCH: Any ladies who would like to attend the Ladies’ Lunch and who have not yet put their names down, today is your last chance. The 'Year-end Lunch' is being held next Saturday 21 November 2009 at Tottie’s Eatery in Rheenendal. The time is 12.30 for 1.00 p.m. and the cost is R100 per person. All ladies are invited to join in and this is totally non-denominational. Please give your name and payment to either Liz Tait (044-382 4584) or Karen Vorster (044-382 6511). If you would like to sponsor someone anonymously or if you need transport, please also contact Liz or Karen. If you are able to, a ±R20 gift of toiletries which can be given to the folk at Vermont and Loeriehof for Christmas would be most welcome.

My little Maltese Toy dog, Amy, was due for her annual check-up and booster vaccination. I took her to the vet where, after she had had her temperature taken (which she loathes), teeth “sort-of” checked (due to her wriggling and keeping her mouth firmly shut following attempts at snapping), and received her injection (which didn’t seem to phase her), I put her down on the floor and turned to settle my bill. The vet looked past me and, with a laugh, said, “Just look at Amy!” I turned and there she was with her back to the closed security gate, sitting up in a begging position with an imploring look as if to say, “Can we PLEASE go now?”

LADIES LUNCH: A 'Year-end Lunch' has been arranged for the ladies on Saturday 21 November 2009 at Tottie’s Eatery at Rheenendal. ALL ladies of Knysna and surrounds (TOTALLY NON-DENOMINATIONAL) are invited to join in. The time is 12.30 for 1.00 p.m. and the cost is R100 per person. For practical reasons, it is necessary to have a firm commitment from those attending, and booking together with payment is to be made by Sunday 15 November at the latest. Please give your name and payment to either Liz Tait (044-382 4584) or Karen Vorster (044-382 6511). Please contact either of these ladies if you wish to sponsor someone anonymously… otherwise invite somebody! For those who do not have transport, please contact Liz or Karen and they will arrange a lift for you. GOD’S LOVE… During our Praise and Worship two Sundays ago, I experienced an over-whelming feeling as, from the foyer, I looked around at everyone in the church. It was as though the Lord was revealing to me how He feels about His people – the feeling of love was so strong that it brought tears to my eyes. Just imagine how much stronger the feeling is for our Heavenly Father Who created you and Who loves you with a love far beyond our understanding!

As I was doing a bit of gardening later in the day, I thought about the people in our church. I thought about those who help others that are unable to walk easily… the folk who rush to take care of children when their parents are temporarily distracted…. the people that hear someone coughing nearby and, without being asked, go and get them a glass of water… those who pray for others… the folk involved with the Music Team and how they lead us in praising and worshipping the Lord… those who take care of the décor and beautiful flowers… the teachers who guide our children… the people who cook meals and provide clothes for the needy… those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that the church runs efficiently… the people who bring a word of knowledge in a very sensitive way – not to condemn, but to help others out of bondage… those who work in the community and carry the message of Jesus Christ with them… our leadership and the way that they rally round when someone is in need… I thought about the way that this church has taken into its heart the displaced Zimbabweans and how plans are being made to help these folk who have lost so much… I thought about all the incredible people in this fellowship and I praised the Lord for each and every one of you. I know there are wonderful, God-fearing people in every church, but I feel so blessed to be a part of this amazing part of His family. I know that God is pleased to call you His friends and His beloved children. I believe that He wants to encourage you to continue the good work and He will be with you every step of the way. TEA DUTY: November – du Plessis’ Group.

INVITATION TO BE BAPTISED: A few months ago, we were privileged to be a part of an impromptu event which turned out to be very, very special! A number of folk had asked to be baptised and our Pastor invited others in the congregation who had been “on the fence” to take this opportunity and go through the waters of baptism as ordained by our Lord Jesus. About 11 people were baptised that day, many of them not having dry clothes to change into, but going through the waters regardless. It was an awesome experience! Today, we will again be having a baptism and the baptismal pool will be ready for anyone else who would like to publicly confess their commitment to our Lord. If you have been considering baptism, this is your opportunity to take that important step!

CONDOLENCES: Our deepest condolences to the Grootbooms, Jafthas and Damons on the passing this week of Catherine (Cookie) Grootboom. May the Lord be very close to you all at this sad time of parting from your loved one.

CONCORDIA OUTREACH: As mentioned last week, plans are in progress to use the upstairs area of the church as schooling facilities for children whose parents are unable to send them to government schools. The school will operate under the A.C.E. system (Accelerated Christian Education) where the children learn from workbooks and progress at their own pace, pushing themselves to achieve. A number of teachers and monitors are required to oversee the children and guide them in their studies. Anyone who is able to become involved in this way is asked to please contact Chris Tait on 044-382 4584.

MEN’S BREAKFAST: All men are invited to meet at our church for breakfast next Saturday, 7^th November at 8.00 a.m. There will be a time of worship followed by a DVD.
